Join our friends from the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society as they lead workshops on butterflies, prairie plants, and art and nature journaling. Each workshop will be 45 minutes and start on the hour.
Workshops will take place in the Tannis M. Richardson education classroom

  • Nature Journaling @ 11:00 am - Join this workshop to receive your very own nature journal and explore various activities you can do at any age to deepen your connection to the natural world. No drawing skills are required! This type of journaling involves immersing oneself in nature, practicing quiet observation, and encouraging curiosity about the plants, animals, and landscapes all around us.
  • Manitoba Butterflies @ 12:00 pm - What is the difference between a moth and a butterfly? Join CPAWS MB Environmental Educator Carly Gray to find out! Together we will explore and identify various Manitoba butterfly species, look at what individuals can do to engage in citizen science, and ways to support local pollinator species in your yard.
  • Prairie Plants @ 1:00 pm - In this session, we will explore native plants that support local wildlife and the vital role this plays in preserving one of North America's most endangered ecosystems. We will explore some of the deep relationships between native wildlife and plants and examine a wide range of wildflowers you can plant in your garden to make it bloom from spring to fall!

Traditional Indigenous Games Workshop | 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Meet us at the Fire Node in the Indigenous Peoples Garden for interactive games following a presentation by Norbert Mercredi, an experienced land-based physical education/health facilitator. Suitable for ages 12+. Please sign up here. Walk-ups are welcome, but please plan to arrive for 2:00 p.m.

All Leaf activities are free and do not require biome admission.

Party for the Planet activities were made possible with support from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
