Canada Day Celebration

Join us at Assiniboine Park on Canada Day to celebrate the natural beauty of our country and its people while also taking time to reflect on our past and how we can work together to make Canada a better place for all.   

At Assiniboine Park, our goal is to create a welcoming space for all members of our community to come together.

The following FREE events and activities will take place between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm:

Canada Day will open with an Indigenous blessing from Grandfather Knowledge Keeper, Vern Dano, at 11:00 am at the Lyric Theatre.

  • Live music and entertainment at the Lyric Theatre and the Preformance Garden at The Leaf – see full schedule below!
  • Sacred Fire and tobacco offerings with Cree Crowchild at the Fire Node at the Indigenous Peoples Garden.
  • Bouncy house and slide for kids at the Lyric Field.
  • Activities for kids presented by Fit Kids Healthy Kids at the Lyric Field.
  • Activations and pop-up activities by Manitoba Blue Cross, CPAWS Manitoba, Recycle Everywhere, WPS Community Caravan and more.

PLUS: enjoy food trucks at the Lyric Field and nearby the Gardens at The Leaf, and check out a local makers market at the Lyric Field.

The local market will feature flora & farmer, Nimis Design, Bearface General Store, Sweet Bits, and Sim Sohi Studio Inc.

Lyric Theatre Performance Schedule

11:00 am: Welcoming remarks followed by an opening ceremony and song by Grandfather Knowledge Keeper Vern Dano.
11:15 am – 12:00 pm: African Drumming & Dancing by Drum Café Walking
12:15 pm – 1:00 pm: Jérémie and the Delicious Hounds
1:15 pm - 1:45 pm: Wolf Dancers & Singers
2:00 pm – 2:45 pm: Sierra Noble
3:00 pm - 3:45 pm: The Small Glories
4:00 pm – 4:10 pm: SPK Iskry
4:20 pm – 4:50 pm: Fubuki Daiko

A free Park n’ Ride service will be provided from the Canadian Mennonite University at 500 Shaftesbury Blvd. from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm.

There will be no fireworks at Assiniboine Park on Canada Day. Picnic sites cannot be booked on Canada Day and will be available on a first come first served basis.
