Workshop - Zoo Photography

Zoo Photography

Join us for an early morning photo session and capture the Zoo as it comes to life! This is a rare opportunity to develop your photography skills when the animals are most active and the Zoo is still closed to the public. Wayne Hewitt, an experienced freelance and Zoo photographer, will be your expert guide. Wayne will share techniques for taking stunning photos of animals in their enclosures including proper camera settings and tips for framing, composition, and taking advantage of available light.

Please bring your own camera and dress for the weather. Participants are welcome to stay in the Zoo after the workshop.

Location: Assiniboine Park Zoo - meet at the Special Events Entrance located inside the Park at 54 Zoo Drive.

Fit Together - Stroller Fitness

Workshop - Fit Together - Stroller Fitness

Get a full-body workout in the fresh air with our Stroller Fitness class. Our welcoming easy-going environment allows you to tend to your baby, meet other parents and babies, and enjoy the benefits of postnatal exercise. Experience more energy, less aches and pains, stronger muscles, lowered risk of postpartum depression and more. Stroller Fitness class is a mobile class with cardio, strength, core and stretching segments, plus fun baby rhymes at the end.

All fitness levels and trimesters are welcome. Postnatal participants should be 4+ weeks postpartum or 6 weeks for caesareans. Open to all ages of stroller-aged babies and tots. Mobile babies and tots should remain in their strollers/carriers/arms until core work. All instructors are certified pre/postnatal fitness specialists.

Classes meet at the Duck Pond shelter in Assiniboine Park.

Fit Together - Parent & Baby Pilates

Workshop - Fit Together - Parent & Baby Pilates

Get a full-body, low impact workout with baby by your side with our Parent & Baby Pilates class. Our welcoming easy-going environment allows you to meet other parents and babies and enjoy the benefits of postnatal exercise. Experience more energy, less aches and pains, stronger muscles for parenting, less risk of postpartum depression and more. Parent & Baby Pilates class includes core and pelvic floor awareness, strength, stretching and relaxation segments, all designed for postpartum, plus some fun baby rhymes at the end.

Slow Flow Yoga at the Pavilion

Workshop - Slow Flow Yoga at the Pavilion

Registration for this session is now closed. 

Instructor Jackie Enberg is certified in Vinyasa Flow and Restorative yoga. In this class we will practice a Slow Flow with restorative pauses/poses. This class is accessible to students of all experiences levels. Jackie has been connected to the Park all her life, growing up close to the park, and as an animal care supervisor, is proud to call the Zoo her career for almost 20 years.

Gardens at The Leaf Tour

Join us for a guided tour that will captivate your senses and bring you closer nature. The Gardens at the Leaf each tell a story of how people connect with plants and bring meaning to our lives.

Our passionate staff and volunteers take you on a relaxed stroll through the gardens where you learn about the stories of each garden: Indigenous Peoples Garden, Kitchen Garden, Sensory Garden, Performance Garden, and the Seasonal Garden.

This Tour will run rain or shine. Bike racks available.

Please park at The Leaf visitor parking lot and meet at the nearby Locomotive Train.

Garden pathway surfaces include: loose gravel, packed limestone, brick pavers, boardwalks. Surface grades are mainly level with few gradual inclines. Benches are available for breaks if needed.

Pavilion High Tea and Tour

Pavilion High Tea and Tour

Explore the unique history of Assiniboine Park through its buildings and green-spaces, all from the comfort of the Pavilion art galleries and the gorgeous atrium.

This tour will delve into the restoration of the Tudor styled architecture of the iconic Pavilion by renowned architects, Northwood and Chivers, following a fire in 1929.

We will also learn about the Park’s natural green spaces as designed by Canada’s first registered landscape architect, Frederick G. Todd. Todd was assistant to Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York's Central Park, who is considered the father of American landscape architecture and a guiding presence to the City Beautiful movement.

The tour will finish with high tea in the Pavilion atrium.

Spend an evening immersed in culture and nature as you explore the contemporary art features of the WAG at the Park galleries and celebrate the works of the Pavilion art gallery’s most renowned artists.

Get creative with your own art activity, then cap things off on the patio with a summer inspired botanical cocktail and appetizers prepared by the Park culinary team. No art skills required!

Booking & Cancellation Policies

  • Registration fees are non-refundable (unless the program is cancelled by Assiniboine Park Conservancy).
  • Pre-registration and payment is encouraged to ensure we have sufficient staff and materials for attendees. Sorry, we cannot accept walk-ups unless otherwise specified.
  • Workshops are subject to demand. If enrollment is insufficient, Assiniboine Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel a workshop up to one week in advance.
