Programs & Workshops
Programs and workshops take place in gorgeous settings surrounded by nature in Assiniboine Park, the Zoo, and The Leaf. Members save 10% on program fees! If you are unable to register online, check out some additional registration options.
Yoga with the Bears

Join Assiniboine Park Zoo's own Jackie Enberg for this Vinyasa and Restorative yoga glass alongside our polar bears!
In honour of International Polar Bear Day, $10 from each registration will be donated to support our Wildlife Conservation Fund, that supports polar bear research.
Please meet at the Special Events Entrance at 54 Zoo Drive, for 7:45 a.m. A volunteer will direct you to the Gateway to the Arctic building where the class will take place.
Please bring a reusable water bottle, yoga mat, blanket, and any yoga supports you might need.
About the Instructor
Instructor Jackie Enberg is certified in Vinyasa Flow and Restorative yoga. In this class we will practice a Slow Flow with Restorative pauses/poses. This class is accessible to students of all experiences levels. Jackie has been connected to the Park all her life, growing up close to the park, and as an animal care curator, is proud to call the Zoo her career for almost 20 years.

Guided Fat Bike Tours with Kendrick's Outdoor Adventures

See Assiniboine Park from a new perspective this winter!
Join our Education team on a fat bike, provided by Kendrick's Outdoor Adventures, as you explore Assiniboine Park and learn about the area and the wildlife that live here!
Fat bikes are included with registration, helmet rental is available for a fee.

Saturday Guided Snowshoe (January 18 - February 22)

Join our Saturday afternoon guided snowshoe adventures at Assiniboine Park in 2025!
A member of Assiniboine Park Conservancy's Education and Programming team will help you make the most of one of Manitoba's iconic winter wonderlands! We will provide snowshoes (you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer). Please arrive dressed and ready to be outside for 90 minutes. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult.
Guided snowshoes will be 1-3km in length and over 90 minutes long.
For safety and ground-related reasons, guided snowshoes will become on-foot hikes if necessary.

January 18 - Feathered Friends

Learn more about the hearty winter birds that live in our forests. We'll be checking in on our feathered neighbours and find out what birds eat to stay warm.
January 25 - Winter Trees

Experience the embrace of the urban forest as snowshoes let you access secrets spots! On this tour, we'll be exploring the riverbank and upland forests of Assiniboine Park.
February 1 - Winter Tracking

Make some tracks and find out how to read animal tracks as snowshoes carry you across the landscape! We'll help you interpret animal tracks and traces, bring you in on some tracking secrets, and leave you with a new appreciation for Winnipeg's winter biodiversity.
February 8 - Oh, Deer!

Come ready to learn more about a creature that embraces winter, the whitetail deer. See bedding areas, learn to recognize deer feeding marks, and read the tales written in deer tracks.
February 15 - Feathered Friends

Weather Policy
Saturday Guided Snowshoeing will proceed snow, rain, or shine. We will only cancel in the case of extreme weather.
Cancellation will be determined by 8:30 am the day of. Registered participants will be contacted by e-mail if they would like to exchange for a different day.
Slow Flow Yoga with Jackie Enberg (March 5 - April 30)

Instructor Jackie Enberg is certified in Vinyasa Flow and Restorative Yoga. In this class, we will practice a Slow Flow with restorative pauses/poses. This class is accessible to students of all experience levels. Designed for children ages 3 -5 and their adult companion, each week in Park Tots, we will cover a seasonal topic on using nature to teach both adults and children interesting lessons and hands-on experiences. You'll leave with more knowledge and nature skills you can use in every day life, as well as with memories with your children through play.
Portions of the program will occur indoors and outdoors. Please come with clothes appropriate for outdoor play, a water bottle and a snack.

Beaded Cardinal Pin Workshop with Shannon Tara Kalić (March 2025)

Enjoy a peaceful afternoon at The Leaf and learn how to make a beautiful beaded cardinal pin!
Participants will create their own 3 x 1.5 inch pin using two needle flat stitch/embroidery stitch, pebble stitch, and single-bead edging techniques.
This workshop is 4 hours to allow time to start the project and learn all the necessary steps to complete the project at home. (All materials included.)
Workshop participants must be over 16 years of age.
About the Facilitator
Shannon Tara Kalić (she/her) is a Métis artist, facilitator and anti-racism educator from Winnipeg. She has been beading and creating with fur and leather since 2016, and started her business, Waabishki Miigwan Creations, in January 2020.

Hygge in Bloom - Embracing Renewal & Intentional Living

In this mini wellness retreat at The Leaf, participants will explore Hygge principles and practices as tools for renewal, intentional living and mindfulness during the seasonal shift into spring. This session will combine sensory experiences, hands-on activities, and reflective exercises to inspire meaningful change and connection. Activities include a guided biome walk to learn the benefits of indoor forest bathing, crafting a personalized bath salt or simmer pot using essential oils, and the creation of a mini vision board.
About the Facilitator
Jill Kantor is the founder of The Hygge Wellness Company where she helps individuals find comfort, clarity, and connection through intentional living. Jill’s professional background includes a 20-year career at Aplin where she most recently served as Director of Learning and Development. In this role she was passionate about helping individuals thrive,developing and leading CALM, the company's workplace wellness program, which supported employee well-being and resilience. She is a Certified Sound Healing Practitioner, Traditional Wisdom Modern Kitchen Teacher,Workplace Wellness Practitioner, and a current student of Positive Psychology. Jill combines mindfulness, evidence-based practices, and holistic wellness to inspire others to savor life’s simple moments and embrace joy and fulfillment.

Junior Chefs Academy - Love and Sprinkles

In this Valentine's Day inspired workshop, children ages 8 - 12 with their adult companion will learn various techniques to create and decorate their own valentine themed cookies. This workshop is facilitated by APC'S own Victoria Nguyen. All materials provided.
Don't forget your reuseable container to take home leftover treats!
About the Facilitator
Facilitator Victoria Nguyen began to bake in high school as a way to show her love to others and was soon whipping up treats for everyone she knew. She has been with APC for four years, where she started as a volunteer and now works for the Education team. Victoria is going into her fourth year in the University of Winnipeg's integrated program of Education. She has been running cooking programs for the Seven Oaks School Division, and loves sharing her enthusiasm with young chefs.

The Living Well Program

The Living Well Program enables people living with mild to moderate signs of dementia and their care partners to reap the social and well-being benefits of engaging with plants with the guidance of a practitioner of horticulture therapy.
We cultivate a dementia-friendly community with sensory plant-based activities, fostering social engagement, and guided explorations of The Leaf and outdoor gardens when the weather permits. Every session includes refreshments. All levels of gardening experience are welcome.
This program is in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

The Foodie Series - Edible Amour: A Culinary Journey of Love, Scents, and Vanilla

Ready to experience the tastes, scents and culinary traditions of love? Be treated to a culinary journey of flavors and aromas of some very romantic fare prepared by Assiniboine Park's own Executive Chef Heiko Duehrsen, complete with carefully selected drink pairings from the bar at Gather. As you sample the dishes, Chef Heiko will be demonstrating how to prepare them in our state-of-the-art teaching kitchen so you can recreate them at home.
In addition, you will learn about the fascinating world of of some of our most romantic flora from one of our plant experts at The Leaf.

Botanical Scrubs and Soaks

Unwind with us at The Leaf and learn how to make a sugar scrub and a salt bath soak using essential oils and botanical ingredients.
You'll learn more about the benefits of herbs, local plants, and essentials oils for your well-being. Then, participants will make a large jar of a botanical salt bath soak, your choice of scents for a small container of sugar scrub, recipes, and more!

Zoo Tots

These wildly interactive classes encourage a child's natural curiosity about the world. We explore nature, art, plants and animals through activities. Get wild and spark wonder in the Zoo! For children ages 3 - 5 with an adult partner. Please dress for the weather as we will spend time outdoors visiting animals in the Zoo.
Please enter at the Special Events Entrance located inside Assiniboine Park at 54 Zoo Drive.
Special Events Entrance opens at 9:45 AM where a volunteer will check you in. Please dress for the weather as we will be exploring outdoors. Please print this ticket and bring it with you to each Zoo Tots session. Your ticket includes Zoo admission for ONLY the participating child plus one accompanying adult. Please do not bring extra adults.

Booking & Cancellation Policies
- Registration fees are non-refundable (unless the program or tour is cancelled by Assiniboine Park Conservancy).
- Pre-registration and payment for programs and workshops is encouraged to ensure we have sufficient staff and materials for attendees. Sorry, we cannot accept walk-ups for programs and workshops unless otherwise specified. Walk-ups are welcome for tours, space permitting.
- Programs and workshops are subject to demand. If enrollment is insufficient, Assiniboine Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel a workshop up to one week in advance.
