Zoo Tots

Workshop - Zoo Tots

Get wild and spark wonder at the Zoo with Zoo Tots!

We'll explore nature, art, plants and animals with wildly interactive classes to help encourage your child's curiosity about the natural world.

Geared for children ages 3 - 5 with an adult companion. We will spend time outside visiting the animals at the Zoo, so please dress for the weather.

Your ticket includes Zoo admission for ONLY the participating child plus one accompanying adult. Do not bring extra adults.

Park Tots

Workshop - Park Tots

Explore the wonderland of Assiniboine Park with Park Tots!

Designed for children ages 3 -5 and their adult companion, each week we'll cover a seasonal nature topic with early childhood development professional Kim Crockett to teach both adults and children interesting lessons and hands-on experiences about nature. You'll leave with more knowledge and skills you can use in every day life, as well as memories shared with your children through play.

Portions of the program will occur indoors and outdoors. Please come with clothes appropriate for outdoor play, a water bottle and a snack.

Slow Flow Yoga with Jackie Enberg

Workshop - Slow Flow Yoga with Jackie Enberg

Stretch and flow with Assiniboine Park's own Jackie Enberg in this weekly slow flow practice.

This class is accessible to students of all experience levels.

Please bring a yoga mat, blanket, and any yoga supports you may need.

About the Instructor
Instructor Jackie Enberg is certified in Vinyasa Flow and Restorative yoga. Jackie has been connected to the Park all her life, growing up close to the park, and as an animal care curator, is proud to call the Zoo her career for almost 20 years.

Enjoy a peaceful afternoon learning how to make delicate daisy chain stud earrings!

In this beginner-friendly class, participants will receive supplies for two pairs of daisy chain stud earrings - learning to bead purple daisy chains in class, and taking supplies home for a second pair in colours of their choice. All materials included.

Workshop participants must be over 16 years of age.

About the Facilitator
Shannon Kalić (she/her) is a Métis artist, facilitator and anti-racism educator from Winnipeg. She has been beading and creating with fur and leather since 2016, and started her business, Waabishki Miigwan Creations, in January 2021.

Workshop - Chocolate Making with Chocolatier Constance Popp

Indulge in the rich world of chocolate with renowned local chocolatier Constance Popp.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore the importance of single-origin chocolate, uncovering its unique flavors and ethical significance. Learn about the fascinating journey from bean to bar, tracing chocolates history and production process. Then, roll up your sleeves and dive into making your own sweet creations—light, fluffy marshmallows and decadent chocolate mousse.

We also visit the Leaf's own unique chocolate trees.

About the Instructor
After years of working as an Environmental Manager and making chocolate at home, Constance studied at the Chocolate Academy in Montreal (where she is from originally) and started her chocolate business in 2007. Constance and her team love sharing their chocolate joy with everyone and were happy to attend the Oscars, Golden Globes, Junos and making chocolate for the Queen too!

Junior Chefs Academy - Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops

Workshop - Junior Chefs Academy - Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops

In this hands-on workshop, kids ages 8-12, with their adult companion, will team up to make ice cream cone cake pops; they look like ice cream cones, but it's actually cake! We'll cover basic cake pop techniques, easy decorating tips, and creative ways to make each treat one-of-a-kind. No baking experience needed - just bring your creativity and your sweet tooth!

All supplies included - don't forget your reusable container to take home leftover treats.

About the Facilitator
Victoria Nguyen began to bake in high school as a way to show her love to others and was soon whipping up treats for everyone she knew. She has been with APC for four years, where she started as a volunteer and now works for the Education team. Victoria is going into her fourth year in the University of Winnipeg's integrated program of Education. She has been running cooking programs for the Seven Oaks School Division, and loves sharing her enthusiasm with young chefs.

Perennial Garden Design

Workshop - Perennial Garden Design

Join Assiniboine Park Conservancy's Outdoor Garden Supervisor, Craig Gillespie, to learn how to make a perennial bed or border that remains beautiful year after year. Learn the fundamentals of garden design, including expert tips on plant selection, maintenance, and strategies for extending colour throughout the seasons. All levels of gardeners are welcome!

About the Instructor
Craig Gillespie is the Outdoor Horticulture Supervisor at Assiniboine Park, where he has dedicated 15 years to cultivating and maintaining its stunning landscapes. With over 35 years in the horticulture industry, Craig combines deep expertise with a creative eye for garden design.

Ever wonder where your food comes from? Or how those delicious veggies end up on your plate? Let's embark on a farm-to-fork journey right here at The Leaf!

Geared for children ages 6-10 and their adult companion, you'll both roll up their sleeves and dive into the world of gardening. Learn the secrets of planting and nurturing your very own mini vegetable garden. 

Plus, you'll walk away with eight different vegetable seedlings or seeds in a take home container to plant and enjoy throughout the season as they grow!

The Living Well Program - Celebrate Spring

Workshop - The Living Well Program - Celebrate Spring

Welcome the joys of spring with The Living Well Program, a nature-based experience designed for individuals living with mild to moderate signs of dementia and their care partners.

Guided by a horticultural therapy practitioner, we'll explore slow birding, a peaceful and accessible way to connect with birds and nature. We'll also enjoy gentle walks on paved pathways, sensory nature activities, and guided visits to the English Garden, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, and Riley Family Duck Pond. Every session includes refreshments.

This program is in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

  • Registration fees are non-refundable (unless the program or tour is cancelled by Assiniboine Park Conservancy).
  • Pre-registration and payment for programs and workshops is encouraged to ensure we have sufficient staff and materials for attendees. Sorry, we cannot accept walk-ups for programs and workshops unless otherwise specified. Walk-ups are welcome for tours, space permitting.
  • Programs and workshops are subject to demand. If enrollment is insufficient, Assiniboine Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel a workshop up to one week in advance.
