The Asian animals section of the Zoo contains a number of rare and exotic animal species including Amur tigers, takins, and Przewalski's horses.

The Zoo is home to two endangered Amur tigers, one female and one male. The tigers enjoy an expansive new habitat completed in 2014 that includes a pool, nature shade, and plenty of room for these big cats to roam.

Other endangered and at risk species found in the Asian section of the Zoo include the Sichuan takin, Przewalski's horse, Stellar's sea eagle, and Turkmenian markhor.

Assiniboine Park Zoo currently participates in over 50 breeding programs through both the Species Survival Plan (SSP) and the European Endangered Species Program (EEP). Many of these programs represent species that urgently need to be conserved and protected in the wild.
