Itoh Peonies are a hybrid plant, combining the large flowers of a tree peony with the hardiness of an herbaceous peony. Their large, long lasting flowers come in a larger colour range than traditional peonies, including pinks, red, white, and yellow.

Itoh Peonies are not as floppy as traditional herbaceous peonies and do not required stalking. The flowers will bloom above the lush foliage, which will last until autumn. The blooms are quite prolific, with many sources reporting up to 60 per year on a mature bush!

Itoh Peonies are relatively low maintenance plants, and should be planted in full sun or partial shade. Water in the spring as new growth emerges, but be careful not to over water. Plant in a rich, well-drained soil.

At Assiniboine Park, Itoh Peonies are exclusively in the English Garden, primarily in the Garden of Life.
