Workshop - Beading Basics and Artist Talk: Wrapped Stitch | November 10

Learn the basics of wrapped stitch (used to bead lanyards, necklaces, bracelets, hats, and more) with Métis artist Shannon Tara Kalić. Participants will have ample time to explore the technique, enjoy a cup of tea, and listen to Shannon discuss "Inspiration vs. Copying in Beadwork".

Skills learned in this class can be used in a wide variety of beading projects, and are helpful for progressing to more advanced beading workshops.

About the Facilitator
Shannon Tara Kalić (she/her) is a Métis artist, facilitator and anti-racism educator from Winnipeg. She has been beading and creating with fur and leather since 2016, and started her business, Waabishki Miigwan Creations, in January 2021.

Get ready for a sweet and festive baking adventure! In this hands-on workshop, children ages 8–12 and their adult companions will turn classic gingerbread cookies into charming seasonal creations. From winter fun snow people to snowflake sprinkles, you’ll make and decorate delightful edible masterpieces that are sure to warm hearts and bring cheer to your taste buds this winter!

About the Facilitator
Victoria Nguyen began baking in high school as a way to show her love to others and soon started whipping up treats for everyone she knew. She has been with APC for six years, where she started as a volunteer and now works for the Events team. Victoria is entering her fourth year in the University of Winnipeg's integrated program in Education.

Don't forget your reusable container to take home leftover treats.

Workshop - Home Beer Brewing Workshop | February 12

Join Barret Miller, brewing instructor and Manitoba's open-fire brewing guy, for a beginner-friendly home brewing workshop!

Learn how to prepare and brew the equivalent of a 24-pack of traditional spring wheat beer in just 90 to 120 minutes. During the workshop, you’ll also get to touch, smell, and taste different malt samples you can use in future batches.

With warmer weather approaching, now is the perfect time to brew a batch of light, refreshing beer that will be ready to enjoy all summer long.

You'll leave this workshop with an equipment checklist and two recipes to continue brewing at home.

Please note: No beer or alcohol will be provided during this workshop.

Booking & Cancellation Policies

  • Registration fees are non-refundable (unless the program or tour is cancelled by Assiniboine Park Conservancy).
  • Pre-registration and payment for programs and workshops is encouraged to ensure we have sufficient staff and materials for attendees. Sorry, we cannot accept walk-ups for programs and workshops unless otherwise specified. Walk-ups are welcome for tours, space permitting.
  • Programs and workshops are subject to demand. If enrollment is insufficient, Assiniboine Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel a workshop up to one week in advance.
