Echinops Ritro or Globe Thistle is a pretty perennial pollinator plant that is currently blooming in the English Garden at Assiniboine Park!

The Globe Thistle blooms from mid-summer to early fall and thrives in full sun or tolerates partial shade. It requires only dry to medium amounts of water and is generally low maintenance and tolerates a wide range of soils. The Globe Thistle is an excellent choice for borders as it tends to rise above other perennials and will form bold globe-shaped blue flowers.

This is an excellent choice for attracting pollinators to your garden like bees and butterflies! By choosing pollinator-friendly plants, home gardeners can help support a healthy ecosystem. In addition to choosing pollinator-friendly plants, you can support pollinators at home by reducing your use of pesticides and herbicides, and by choosing native plant species for your garden and yard.
