Buckthorn Biodiversity Blitz and Forest Clean-Up
Bye-bye buckthorn! Join our mighty crew of community volunteers to help our local ecosystem by removing this invader. European Buckthorn is an invasive species that harms native plant life and reduces our urban biodiversity. We will also host a general clean-up of our forests to help maintain our spaces and keep them green!
Date: Saturday, May 2
Time: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (come and go!)
Location: Meet at the Nature Playground Parking Lot
Volunteers will work with the Park’s Forestry and Education teams to remove buckthorn, learn more about preventing the release of invasive species at home, and learn how to safeguard native plants.
Help restore a piece of Assiniboine Park habitat to buckthorn-free biodiverse beauty!
- Children must be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for ages six and up.
- Gloves and simple tools will be provided. Please wear sensible, closed-toed footwear.
