Make some waves or look at reality in a new way with our two new art exhibits curated by the Winnipeg Art Gallery, currently on display in The Pavilion. On until November 2024, “Snapshots: Our Phantom Nostalgia” in the John P Crabb Gallery (2nd floor) and “Made of Many: Multiplicity of Self” in the Ivan Eyre Gallery (3rd floor) will encourage you to contemplate old memories, provide insights to confront realities with beautiful art, and leave you feeling inspired from seeing the world in a new light.

At “Snapshots: Our Phantom Nostalgia,” guests are whisked through the joyful memories of summer with road trips, sunshine, and the quintessential Canadiana experience. However, this gallery will expose the realities of these memories, what it means to have these experiences through art and history, and what was gained and lost to create them. As the title suggests, this beautiful exhibit will take you through the veil of rose-coloured glasses to ask you if what you’re seeing, or have experienced growing up, is truly the wholesome experience you believed it was.

As soon as you step off the elevator to the third floor, you’ll be mesmerized by the sharp colours and clever creations of “Made of Many: Multiplicity of Self." The artists use juxtaposing elements, fragmented faces, distorted planes and more to show life through a new lens. Showcasing artists such as Ivan Eyre, Esther Warkov, Sheila Butler, and more, they approach the self-discovery of personhood through their art that challenge and inspire perspectives to make way for new understandings of self.
Visit the galleries today to see these amazing collections, free to the public. Plus, make sure to check out our other galleries at The Pavilion, and leave inspired by the art to take on life in a whole new way.
