Join us at Assiniboine Park on Sunday, June 22 for a day filled with music, entertainment, and fun in recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day. All activities take place at the outdoor Gardens at The Leaf and inside The Leaf classroom.

11:00 am - 4:00 pm Bouncy castle and facepainting with Legends Characters at The Grove
11:00 am – 4:00 pm Teepee Teachings at the Indigenous Peoples Garden
11:00 am – 5:00 pm Fire and tobacco teachings at the Fire Node in the Indigenous Peoples Garden 
11:00 am – 5:00 pm Food trucks: Sol Food Truck, GG Gelati, La Taqueria, Zah Pizza Bistro, Pubtoba
12:30 pm – 4:00 pm 

Workshops and Teachings with Summer Fisher*

  • 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm: Dangled Beaded Earrings Teachings
  • 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm: Bannock Making Workshop

Workshops take place at the Tannis M. Richardson Classroom inside The Leaf

1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm Garden Tours hosted by the Assiniboine Park Education Team. Limit 20 people. Tours begin at the Fire Node in the Indigenous Peoples Garden
11:00 am – 5:00 pm Community partner booths: Folklorama, CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Parks & Wilderness Society

* Summer Fisher is Anishinaabe from Nipissing First Nation. During her time residing in Winnipeg, she enjoys sharing her teachings and knowledge with people of all ages.

1:00 pm - 1:30 pm Métis Prairie Steppers with a Red River Jig Workshop featuring Morgan Grace*
2:00 pm – 2:45 pm Miranda Currie - Sub-Arctic Family Sing-a-long
3:00 pm – 3:30 pm Miranda Currie - Family Storytime
4:00 pm – 4:45 pm Miranda Currie - Music and Folksongs

*Pow Wow and Métis Jigging demonstrations and programming have been curated by Joe Thomas.
