Weather Policies

The following weather policies apply to group tours, camps, school and group bookings, and guided tours.

Assiniboine Park Conservancy staff routinely monitor weather conditions and severe weather warnings. In the event of the following extreme weather conditions, programming will be modified to keep your group as comfortable and as safe as possible.

Thunderstorm/Lightning

• All activities will be moved indoors when lightning and thunder are within 10km of the activity area, or if a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for the city of Winnipeg.

Air Quality and Smoke

• Air Quality Health Index of 7 - 9:
  • Masks are recommended for outdoor activities.
  • Outdoor activities may be modified and more frequent breaks may be taken indoors.
  • Running and strenuous activities will be removed from programming.
    
    
• Air Quality Health Index of 10 or higher:
  • Masks are strongly recommend for all participants when outdoors.
  • Activities will be moved indoors, and outdoor activity will be substantially reduced until improved air quality resumes.

Participants are responsible for bringing their own suitable mask.

Extreme Temperatures

• Program activities will be modified to limit outdoor exposure during periods of extreme heat, cold, and high windchills. Programming modifications will be informed by monitoring the impact of extreme conditions on all participants.
• Please ensure your group is prepared to be outside for portions of your program by dressing in layers, carrying water, etc.

School Closures/Bus Disruptions

• If your School Division suspends field trips, school is closed, or bus service is cancelled due to severe weather conditions, we will do our best to work with you to reschedule your program. If rescheduling is not possible, we will issue a 100% refund.
• We do not offer refunds if you choose to cancel due to weather for reasons other than those outlined above.
  

Conditions can shift rapidly. Our staff closely monitors weather updates and can adapt quickly to move forward with programming as the weather allows!
