Fun Fact: Emus are one of the largest species of flightless birds. They have vestigial (small, non-functional) wings that they flap while running to help stabilize themselves.

Conservation Story: During a severe drought in Australia in 1932, thousands of Emus moved into agricultural areas in search of food. This prompted the local government to enlist the help of the military to cull the birds in what has become known as the "Emu wars". The military’s efforts were largely unsuccessful.
