- They are one of the most recently described monkey genera, first observed and documented by Swiss-Brazilian naturalist Émil August Goeldi.
- Their naturally dark colouring helps them camouflage from predators.
- Goeldi's monkey infants are cared for communally, with the mother passing the baby to other family members as early as 10 days after birth.
