Volunteers help visitors enjoy a magical, family-friendly experience at Boo at the Zoo.

Wednesday - Thursday: 4:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday - Saturday: 4:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Sunday: 4:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Shift lengths, as well as start and end times will vary by role. 

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must...

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Commit to at least two shifts throughout Boo at the Zoo
  • Be able to spend extended periods of time outdoors in all kinds of weather (all volunteer positions are outdoors)
  • Be able to move around easily outdoors either on foot or with the use of mobility aids
  • Be comfortable interacting with visitors of all ages
  • Have strong verbal communication skills
  • Follow directions from staff and lead volunteers
  • Participate in a get-to-know-you interview before acceptance as volunteer
  • Possess a clean Criminal Record Check (costs covered by Assiniboine Park Conservancy)
  • Complete an online training module

General Volunteer Positions

The following positions are suitable for all volunteers:

  • Visitor Services Concierge
  • Event Ambassadors
  • Access Control Ambassadors
  • Craft Station Hosts

All positions require volunteers to spend time outdoors and have great communication skills. 

Volunteer schedules are subject to change. Position descriptions and a list of tasks will be provided upon receipt of application. The opportunity to sign up for shifts will be provided upon completion of the interview, Criminal Record Check, and online training module.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear family-friendly Halloween costumes!
 

Volunteer Benefits

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two shifts. Weekday shifts are approximately 5 hours long (with breaks). Friday and Saturday shifts are approximately 3 hours long (with breaks).

Volunteers receive complimentary parking on-site. 

During every shift, you will receive:

  • Coffee, hot chocolate, water, and prepackaged snacks
