Join Barret Miller, brewing instructor and Manitoba's open-fire brewing guy, for our three-part brewing educational series! Learn the magic of making mead, celebratory beers, and the history behind it all.

Please note: No beer or alcohol will be provided during any workshops. Snacks and drinks (including alcoholic beverages) are available for purchase during the workshop at The Leaf Coffee Bar or Gather Craft Kitchen & Bar. 

The Magic of Mead-Making | October 1

Mead is a drink steeped in myth and mystery. Learn the science and magic of being a mazer (mead-maker)!

Fermenting honey into mead is similar to wine and beer-making, but requires a slightly different approach to create the best possible mead. In this workshop, you will learn the steps of making a light, sparkling mead, and a heavier, sweeter, fruit or herb-infused mead.

At the end of the workshop, you will leave with an equipment list and recipes to start making your own mead!

Holiday Hops | November 5

Holiday gatherings are better with something special to share. This holiday season, learn to brew a one-of-a-kind beer you won't find on any store shelf!

In this workshop, you'll learn the basic techniques and recipes for brewing your own celebratory beers. Create something truly unique for your holiday gatherings.

Together, we'll brew a small 5L batch of golden ale from malted grain and a 9.5L batch of stout using a combination of grains and malt extract. You'll also learn how and when to incorporate special ingredients, like spices, chocolate, and fruit, to create distinctive seasonal beers that stand out this holiday season.

Historic Ales and Tales | February 11, 2027

Part history, part brewing, all fun! In this workshop, you will learn basic brewing techniques and journey back to the days when horse-drawn wagons delivered barrels of porter to Winnipeg's first ballpark, and families made their own beer with memories of the Old Country and local ingredients.

We will brew a historic porter and a cream ale, and you'll head home with recipes, know-how, and a new appreciation for local history!
