Wild Range: Grasslands and inland Wetlands of Northern North America and Northern Europe

Diet: Lemmings and other voles are a major part of the snowy owl's diet, other mammals up to the size of hares may also be consumed when available. Less common prey sources include birds, medium-sized geese, ducks, and occasionally fish, amphibians, crustaceans and beetles.

Longevity in the Wild: 10 years, up to 28 years in captivity

Size: Body: 52 - 71 cm, Wingspan: 126 - 145 cm

Weight: 1.6 - 2.9 kg

Snowy owls disperse remarkably far. Young from a single nest on Victoria Island in the Canadian Arctic dispersed to Hudson Bay, southeastern Ontario and the eastern Russian Coast.
